Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS) Pilot
in Dumfries & Galloway, Edinburgh and Glasgow

Early Years Scotland (EYS) is working in collaboration with the Scottish Government and would like to invite all registered Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) providers including nurseries, playgroups and childminders in the areas covered by Dumfries and Galloway Council, City of Edinburgh Council, and Glasgow City Council to take part in a project to pilot a new Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS).

The pilot will test whether supporting families with the initial deposit, helps children and eligible parents, to take up an ELC place.

Through this pilot scheme, the Scottish Government will guarantee the amount of the deposit on the eligible parents’ behalf, for a period of 12 months* This aims to support an increased number of families to access a nursery or childminding place for their child.

We know that another barrier for eligible parents can be the upfront fees that some providers charge. Some ELC providers, including nurseries, playgroups and childminders might wish to make the most of this scheme and enable more eligible parents to access their services, by switching to charging the parents’ fees in arrears instead of in advance. If you have the security of a deposit (or in this case, a deposit guarantee), this might make it easier for you to consider switching to charge the eligible parent their fees in arrears.

EYS would be delighted if you would consider participating in this new Scottish Government pilot scheme as a registered ELC provider in the areas covered by Dumfries and Galloway Council, City of Edinburgh Council, or Glasgow City Council.

If you would like to find out more, or if you would like to participate in the scheme, please complete and submit the electronic form below or download, complete and return it to: dgs@earlyyearscotland.org as soon as possible, as the final date for an ELC provider to join the DGS is 21 December 2018.

EYS will then confirm your acceptance and add you to the participating providers’ list, viewable by eligible parents interested in participating in the pilot scheme.

Please see below for further information and please do not hesitate to contact EYS if you have any questions or comments on the scheme.
